The premise
The date is 1997. Henry lives on a rural farm in Mulberry County, where paranormal events have prompted the state to impose an 8:00 p.m. curfew. Inspired by The Mandela Catalogue and liminal spaces, the game uses mixed media - dreams, VHS tapes and documents - to tell its story.
ELC Inc
ELC Inc is the shadowy company at the center of the documents. The files reference its bankruptcy (the 13th, 1997 - the source of the 8137 code) and the eventual deconstruction of the ELC Inc Capital Building after an internal investigation stalled.
Project 12
The unlocked Section 4 reveals Project 12, dated 1/2/1997: a biological experiment to create a new body for a man named Brian Grover. The project "succeeded" in producing a new body, but whether Grover's consciousness actually transferred was left unknown - a chilling tie-in to the homework quiz's questions about DNA and code.
The Fallen Angels
The Fallen Angels are the entities that stalk Henry - mimicking people, standing unnaturally far away, and appearing through windows. The secret tape (the "First Fletcher Tape") frames a scientist's final account as the Fallen Angels close in, linking them directly to ELC Inc's experiments.
The silent floor
The documents describe a hidden "silent floor" - over 50 floors of undocumented space built by a Dr. Saladin without CEO Alan Fletcher's permission. Everyone associated with it went missing, the area was completely silent, and its reinforced locked doors blocked any investigation. It is the biggest unanswered mystery heading into Volume 2.
