The emergency broadcast
Volume 1 opens with a state-of-emergency broadcast explaining why the 8:00 p.m. curfew exists. It describes the first documented Fallen Angel sighting in Mulberry County.
On Friday July 18th, the Mulberry County Police Department received a call from David Brown who reported strange noises from his backyard at 2:37am. Police encountered a large pale creature, approximately 8 feet tall, showing extreme visual and auditory sensitivity. Officer Terry Smith captured a photograph before it fled. All residents are advised to lock doors and secure homes. A state-wide 8:00pm curfew is in effect. This creature is not alone - under no circumstances approach these creatures, which experts now call Fallen Angels.
Physical traits
- Roughly humanoid with elongated limbs and unnatural posture - one seen in Chapter 2 crawls on all fours inside the house.
- Large: the broadcast describes them as about 8 feet tall.
- Pale, raw-looking skin - the intro creature is described as a "large pale creature" sensitive to light and sound.
- Extreme visual and auditory sensitivity - bright light (flashlights, car headlights) can distract or repel them temporarily.
Disguise and deception
Fallen Angels do not just chase - they trick. In Chapter 2, Henry sees what looks like an old man at the door asking to use the phone. When denied entry, the figure chokes, then its body splits open and extends into the full Fallen Angel form. Whether this is a parasitic takeover or a chameleon-like disguise is unclear, but the entities clearly mimic human behavior to get close.
The game also hints that what appears to be Benson may not be Benson at all. Fallen Angels seem to delight in psychological torment: breaking windows, luring Henry into the woods, then slipping inside the house while he is outside.
Spine Columns
In-game documents describe Spine Columns - large pillars of bone and organic matter that indicate nearby Fallen Angel activity.
Large pillars of bone and organic matter are strong indicators of nearby humanoids. It is believed that they serve as a disposal point for bodies they no longer need.
The phrase "bodies they no longer need" supports the theory that Fallen Angels use human hosts parasitically before discarding them.
Repelled by prayer
At the end of Volume 1, when Henry is attacked by the entity stalking the house, he begins to pray - and the creature flees immediately. This may explain the "Fallen Angels" name and suggests a weakness the in-game broadcast never mentions. The town clearly does not know about this yet.
Henry's connection
Henry's camping-trip fever dream in Chapter 3 implies his parents were tracking Fallen Angels before they left in a hurry. Equipment in the dream footage suggests documented sightings, possibly linked to the VHS "prisoners." Henry may have encountered Fallen Angels before Volume 1 - and the classified folder that fell from the passing car may have been left for him deliberately.
The Secret Tape confirms Fallen Angels are everywhere - far more than the one Henry faces on the farm. Volume 2 will likely explore why Henry was targeted and what happened to Chris in the cornfield.
